Eprinomectin is a potent, broad-spectrum antiparasitic drug (endectocide) belonging to the avermectin class. It is primarily used in veterinary medicine to treat and control internal (roundworms, lungworms) and external parasites (lice, mange mites, horn flies) in cattle, sheep, goats, cats, and dogs.

How It Works

Eprinomectin paralyzes and kills parasites by binding to specific glutamate-gated chloride channels in their nerve and muscle cells. This increases membrane permeability to chloride ions, causing lethal paralysis.

Primary Veterinary Uses

Cattle: Most commonly used as a pour-on or injectable solution to protect beef and dairy cattle from 39 species of parasites. It is highly valued for dairy cattle because many formulations require zero milk discard or meat withdrawal periods.

Small Ruminants: It is highly effective for controlling nematodes and lungworms in sheep and goats, with minimal risk of residue.

Small Animals: Combined with praziquantel, it is used topically (e.g., Centragard®) in cats to prevent heartworm and treat hookworm, roundworm, and tapeworm infections. It is also occasionally prescribed for dogs.
