· Chemical Nature: It is created by neutralizing lactobionic acid (a third-generation Polyhydroxy Acid, or PHA) with a sodium base.

· Mechanism: In water, it separates into sodium ions and lactobionate ions. This makes it highly water-soluble and easier to formulate into various products compared to pure lactobionic acid.
